I'm beyond thrilled to be returning to perform in American Dreams. I was lucky to be a part of the world premiere at Cleveland Public Theatre in 2018 and am so excited to be bringing this important show to audiences around the country. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the original tour had to move to virtual, but in doing so we've been able to partner with a number of theaters around the country who will present the show. The show imagines a world where the only way into the US is through a game show competition where three contestants must compete for citizenship. The audience is involved every step of the way and their real votes decide who will win American Dreams. More info including showtimes can be found here! On October 3rd at 4pm EST, fajjr+ali will be sharing some of our videos as part of Hafla, a virtual concert and fundraiser that is raising money for Syrian refugees in Greece. The event will feature performances by a number of artists and all the money will go to the Syrian-Greek Youth Forum. More info can be found here and you can donate here. More info here: The Syrian-Greek Youth Forum is an active group of individuals who are advocating, and promoting the active citizenship in Greece through participation in the city. Throughout the week SGYF engage in number of events, and programs. the SGYF team needs your SUPPORT in order to make their DREAM a reality. Their mission of supporting the society by being collective and building sustainable solutions for themselves and sharing it with the community! We are thrilled to be joining one of our favorite shows in the city, Undiscovered Countries, for their 8th birthday show on September 26th! The virtual show will be presented over zoom and feature a variety of acts. You can RSVP to the show here. After months of the theater world not knowing when we can get back to performing, I was so excited to get together (virtually) with some Target Margin artists to start devising work based around touch and this new strange isolated world we are in. Through some informal rehearsals we began developing some material, and they will continue developing through September for some intimate performances in October. The showing will be a part of a series of free, socially distanced performances reflecting on loss and celebrating wonder that take place in various locations in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. More info can be found here! In the wake of the horrible explosion in Beirut on August 4, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, New York Theatre Salon, and the team members behind Global Forms Theater Festival are coming together to host a one-day-only benefit. We hope to both celebrate Lebanese culture, and raise money to support the people affected throughout Lebanon. fajjr+ali will be presenting their video Got to Be as part of the virtual fundraiser. More info on the event, performers, and ways you can donate can be found here: https://www.rattlestick.org/20192020-season/2020/8/15/a-love-letter-to-lebanon-1 I'm excited to be recording my third audiobook with Simon & Schuster, The Turnover by Mike Lupica. I had the pleasure of reading his book Batting Order last year and am excited to be reading his work again. The Turnover follows Lucas and his dreams of being a great basketball player just like his grandfather. But when he learns his grandfather was part of a sports scandal when he was younger, Lucas needs to confront the truth about his hero and grapple with right and wrong on and off the court. I have been, and still am, racked by self-doubt, especially when it comes to achieving certain markers of “success.” So often I’m left thinking, what have I done wrong? One of those markers has been gaining membership to Actors' Equity Association, the theatre union. I have found it incredibly hard to find the opportunities in New York that would put me on the path to membership, as so many qualifying theaters are out of the city, or programs that give you qualifying weeks are often unpaid or in a lot of cases require you to pay in order to be a part of them. After working on so many wonderful projects, my journey towards union membership really only started last year when I worked at TheatreSquared in Fayetteville, Arkansas and was able to start accumulating EMC points. In the fall of 2019 I began working with Target Margin Theater and after a number of workshops was able to join them on a union contract and fast track my way into the union. Anyway, all of this is to say that it’s hard, but I’m grateful for all of the work I’ve done thus far, non-union and union, that has gotten me to this point. Although this card doesn’t actually change a whole lot, and I probably joined at the worst time since there is no work, I’m excited to take this next step in my career. I'm super grateful to return to some normalcy during the pandemic by performing with Writopia Lab for my 5th year. This year, in lieu of live performances, Writopia is producing 40 radio plays. I will be performing in three of the shows. Check out all of the plays by going here or listening on Apple Podcasts. I'm thrilled to be performing in my first Target Margin Theater production. Target Margin has been exploring tales from the One Thousand and One Nights for a number of years now, and I have been working with them since September of 2019 to help dissect these stories and develop work based on them. In January we started developing material based on "The Story of the Porter and the Three Sisters" and I'm excited to bring this work to the stage in our workshop production of P*ssyc*ck Know Nothing. The story explores power, sex and class, centered around three mysterious women and the events that take place one fateful evening at their home in Baghdad. This work, along with the other work TMT has developed over the past few years, will culminate in a massive retelling of the One Thousand and One Nights in early 2021.
